Architecture Talks at the Ottoman Bank Museum

The material displayed in the Ottoman Bank Museum is extremely diverse and encompasses various disciplines besides banking history. In order to integrate these relevant areas of interest into the museum's programs and events, the Voyvoda Street Lectures is initiating a new program - the Voyvoda Street Architecture Talks, starting in May, with the focus this year, on the topic: "Galata and Pera 1900 - 2000".

Talks and lectures on this topic will be given, throughout the year, by selected scholars and architects and, at the end of the series, a workshop will be created to bring lecturers and students together for further discussion and exchange.

Our First Speaker: Prof. Afife Batur

Our first speaker at the Voyvoda Street Architecture Talks, Prof. Afife Batur, from the Department of Architecture at the Istanbul Technical University, will give a lecture on "Art Nouveau in Istanbul", Wednesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m.

Batur will examine the impact of the "Art Nouveau" movement on Istanbul, from 1890 to 1915 - at a time when the city's urban landscape was rapidly changing - and consider the architectural changes brought about by this trend to those newly evolving areas of the city on the axis extending from Voyvoda Street to the "Grande Rue de Pera" (Beyoğlu).
