Continuity and Change from Empire to Republic
The Making of Modern Turkey Seminars Assoc. Professor Asım Karaömerlioğlu, from the Atatürk Institute for Modern Turkish History at Bogaziçi University,will be speaking at the Making of Modern Turkey Seminars this month to address issues concerning the formation of the nation state, the bourgeois revolution, generations, revolution, ideology, modernization and demography, in his presentation titled, Continuity and Change from Empire to Republic. At the seminar scheduled for Saturday, June 19, at 2:30 p.m., Karaömerlioğlu will examine various aspects of the transition from Empire to Republic and discuss the specificities of this transformation. After graduating from the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Boğaziçi University, Assoc. Prof. Karaömerlioğlu earned his master's degree in History, also from Boğaziçi University. He followed this up by a PhD. in the same discipline, obtained from Ohio State University. Karaömerlioğlu is a founding member of the History Foundation (Istanbul) and has written a number of articles and books, published both in Turkey and abroad, on topics such as, village institutes, land reform, houses of the people (halkevleri), and peasants in early Turkish literature, as well as on Russia.
