At the Ottoman Bank Museum:
A Conversation on "Cinema and Youth" with Pelin Batu

Film discussions on specific themes, organized by Mehmet Açar, film critic and consultant to TÜRSAK, (the Turkish Cinema and Audiovisual Foundation), continue to be held at the Museum's movie theater. Pelin Batu, one of the leading, new generation Turkish actresses, joins Açar for a conversation on Cinema and Youth, organized to complement the theme of the month, The Beauty and Tragedy of Youth. The discussion is scheduled for Saturday, May 22 at 4:30 p.m.

Pelin Batu will contribute a young actress' perspective to the youth issues broached in Dead Poets Society, The Graduate, Zéro de Conduite (Zero for Conduct), and Rebel without a Cause - the 4 films showing at the Museum this May. Batu, whose first book of poems, Glass/Cam, was published last year, made her film debut in 1999, cast as the Circassian concubine in Ferhan Özpetek's critically acclaimed Harem Suare (The Last Harem), a Turkish-Italian-French co-production. She has since appeared in the films of several contemporary Turkish directors, including, Yavuz Özkan's, Hayal Kurma Oyunları (Mind Games), Sinan Çetin's, Komser Şekspir (Officer Shakespeare), and Mustafa Altıoklar's, O Şimdi Asker (He's in the Army Now). Pelin Batu also co-starred in the highly rated comedy-action series, Baba (The Mob), first aired, on a private Turkish TV station, in 2003.

Bülent Erkmen and Yeşim Bakırküre designed the Museum's movie theater in complete harmony with the historic and architectural fabric of the building. It has a seating capacity of 46. Screenings are at 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Tickets cost: 4 million TL full, and 2 million TL discounted and can be obtained at the Museum.
