Architectural Historian Paolo Girardelli

Assist. Prof. Paolo Girardelli, faculty member of the Department of History at Boğaziçi University, gave a lecture on the architectural and social contributions of the 19th century Italian community in Istanbul, on Wednesday, February 26, at 6.30 p.m.

Paolo Girardelli presented the 19th century Italian community in Istanbul, under the Ottoman rule, and discussed the trend of migrations-caused by political or economic factors-from the Italian peninsula towards Istanbul and other Eastern-Mediterranean centers, showing their impact on 19th century Istanbul. His presentation was highlighted with photographs drawn from the Ottoman Bank Archives and various other archives from both Italy and Turkey.
