At the Ottoman Bank Museum, the Voyvoda Street Lectures Continue:
Cairo, City of Pyramids... The City Tours Series organized by the Museum, in collaboration with the Foundation for the Development of Cultural Awareness, on the theme "A Tour of a City: On the Trail of Yesterday's Ottoman Bank Branches," continues with Turgay Tuna, from Fest Travel, presenting, "Cairo: a City in Touch with its Past," on Wednesday, November 19, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Turgay Tuna, who has been a professional guide with Fest Travel and taken tours to Egypt, for 10 years now, also operates the "Traces of Egypt in Istanbul" tours and gives seminars on Egyptian history, in association with the agency's Tarih Toplum Dergisi (History and Society Magazine). He will share with us his vision of this extraordinary city, where an Ottoman Bank Branch was once located. "Cairo immeadiately brings to mind the Giza Pyramids, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World", says Tuna, " but it is also the land where the Virgin Mary hid with the child Jesus when fleeing from Herod's soldiers, and an Islamic city famed for its hundreds of mosques with their classic arabesque motifs, and its colorful souks fragrant with the scent of incense. This ancient city, molded from the mud of the river Nile and the beliefs of three great religions, is a photographer's dream come true, a wealth of matchless images..." Throughout the year, the City Tours will focus successively on Baghdad, Beirut, Salonica and Nicosia. ![]() |
