Architecture Talks Begin at the Ottoman Bank Museum
The "Galataport" Project Is Up for Discussion Architect, Murat Tabanlıoğlu, a graduate of the Department of Architecture at Vienna Technical University, will be with us at the Voyvoda Street Architecture Talks on Wednesday, October 8, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. to introduce "Galataport", the project he created for the Galata sea front. Murat Tabanlıoğlu has designed numerous projects to date, including, the Turkish Pavilion at Hannover Expo 2000, the Doğuş Market Place, and the Urban Plaza commissioned by the Aga Khan Trust, in Cairo (still under construction). "Galataport" targets the Salıpazarı area, recognized as the "Istanbul quays" from Genovese times onwards, which today lies forgotten in the shadows of warehouses built in the 1960s. The project aims to revitalize this neglected coastline and, following the example of major cities like Sydney and Barcelona, provide it with the infrastructure required to accommodate the world's largest cruise liners, carrying at least 3,000 passengers. Tabanlıoğlu emphasizes that the realization of the "Galataport" project will endow Istanbul with a new "living environment".
