At the Ottoman Bank Museum the City Tours Series Continues:
Ottoman Influences in Western Thrace This month at the Voyvoda Street City Tours, organized by the Museum in association with the Foundation for the Development of Cultural Awareness, Prof. Filiz Yenişehirlioğlu, Dean of the School of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture at Başkent University, will give a talk on "Ioannina, Salonica, Kavalla", on Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. Filiz Yenişehirlioğlu, a professor of History of Art, and originally from Ioannina, has been conducting research on the Ottoman cultural heritage in Greece for many years now. Her lecture will consider how Ottoman influences in Western Thrace are manifest in the urban fabric and edifices of some of its cities, while local characteristics prevail in others. Prof. Yenişehirlioğlu, a founding member of Sanart Derneği (the Art Association) and Çağdaş Sanat Vakfı (the Contemporary Art Foundation) is also a member of the Specialized Committee on Cultural Heritage at the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, and belongs to the Turkish Economic and Social History Foundation. In 1991, she was "knighted" Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry and in 1992, she received, in Rome, the "Adelaide Ristori" prize, awarded to women for outstanding achievement in their line of work.
