In the first lecture of the series of events organized by the Museum, Prof. Jale Parla focuses on the westernization of the Turkish novel and investigates topics such as alienation, search for identity, industrialization and urbanization relevant to this process. The lecture will be held on Tuesday, March 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will be free of charge.

Prof. Jale Parla obtained her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the English-German-French Literature Department at Harvard University in 1978. Since 2000, she has been teaching Comparative Literature at Istanbul Bilgi University. Her published works include, "Fathers and Sons," "Mastery, Slavery, Orientalism," and "The Novel from Don Quixote to the Present"

In the second lecture, Prof. Günay Kut takes a look at the manuscripts in the Topkapı Palace Museum Library and presents a slide show of the miniatures in them. The lecture is scheduled for Thursday, March 31, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and will be free of charge.

Prof. Kut graduated from the Faculty of Literature at Istanbul University in 1961. She obtained her Ph.D. in 1965, with a dissertation on the works of the famous poet of Çağatay Literature, Ali Şir Nevai. She has been teaching at Boğaziçi University since 1990 and has published numerous books and articles both in Turkey and abroad including, Yazma Eserlerinde Vakıf Mühürleri, Şehname-i Murad and 13. Yüzyıla Ait Bir Yemek Kitabı ("A Cookbook of the 13th Century").
