The Ottoman Bank Museum Participates in the Galata Festival

In conjunction with the Galata Festival held through June 26-29, the Ottoman Bank Museum, located in the historic Galata district, hosts a panel discussion on the theme "Galata, Today and Tomorrow," as well as photographer İsa Çelik's slide-show, on June 28. Admissions to the museum will be free all through the festival.

Prof. Edhem Eldem, newspaper columnist İpek Çalışlar, architect Korhan Gümüş, caricaturist Behiç Ak, architect Mete Göktuğ and journalist Nadire Mater will participate in the panel discussion, "Galata, Today and Tomorrow", held in connection with the Galata Festival, on Saturday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. The panelists will discuss the historical and social structure of Galata where diverse beliefs and cultures have co-existed for centuries and examine the area's present situation and what should be done to help preserve its cultural and architectural fabric.

Another event, scheduled for the same day, is a slide show of Galata pictures taken by photographer İsa Çelik. Çelik's photographs will take you on a stroll down narrow streets shadowed by old stone houses in the historic district of Galata, where, the now traditional Galata Festival is being held for the 15th time. Over the years, the area has maintained a multi-cultural structure and distinctive architecture which, to this day, set it apart from the rest of the Istanbul. The festival is organized by the Şehr-i Istanbul (City of Istanbul) Association with the contributions of the Beyoğlu Municipality and various civil organizations and volunteers.
