Soli Özel: The Path towards the EU and After...
Our guest speaker, at the Voyvoda Street Economic History Lectures this month, will be Soli Özel, from Istanbul Bilgi University, with a presentation entitled, "Towards the EU and After." The lecture will be held at the Museum, on Wednesday, October 5, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
In his lecture, Soli Özel examines how EU-Turkey relations will develop in the period ahead, both with respect to Turkey's actions and to how fast the EU overcomes its own internal crisis. In his evaluation, Özel will also address Turkey's goals.
After graduating from the Department of International Relations at John Hopkins University, Özel taught in the US, at the University of Washington, at UC and at SAIS.
Soli Özel has also taught for a time at Boğaziçi University and is currently a faculty member of the Department of International Relations at Istanbul Bilgi University. He has published numerous articles including, "After the Tsunami," which appeared in the April 2003 issue of the Journal of Democracy.
In addition, Özel writes a column twice a week for the newspaper Sabah and is the editor of the Turkish versions of the TÜSİAD publications, "Private View" and "Foreign Policy."
