This Week at the Voyvoda Street Economic History Lectures
The Two Globalizations: Similarities, Differences, Consequences

Prof. Taner Berksoy, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Bilgi University will be our guest speaker at the Voyvoda Street Economic History Lectures with a presentation entitled "The Two Globalizations: Similarities, Differences and Consequences". The lecture, which is free of charge, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Prof. Taner Berksoy will consider the similarities and differences between the first phase of globalization which took place at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries and the current globalization process, which is more widespread. Berksoy will also discuss the likelihood that globalization may lead to such undesirable outcomes as autarchy, economic isolation and nationalism.

Born in 1943 in Gaziantep, Taner Berksoy graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University. After obtaining his master's degree and Ph.D. from Cambridge University, Berksoy taught macroeconomics, international economics and development economics at Cambridge and Hacettepe Universities. Since 1999, he has served as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Istanbul Bilgi University. Berksoy has published numerous books, research papers and articles.
