Istanbul Lectures at the Ottoman Bank Museum
Traditional Cities vs Modern Cities as Sources of Poetic Inspiration If a philosophical stroll around a city, internalizing and idealizing its sights, is aesthetically stimulating to the imagination, can the modern metropolis Istanbul still inspire poetic consciousness? Hilmi Yavuz, poet and writer, will be our guest speaker this month at the Voyvoda Street Istanbul Lectures with a presentation on this topic entitled, "Can the Modern Metropolis Istanbul Still Be a Source of Poetic Inspiration?", which is scheduled for Wednesday, January 12, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Referring to Baudelaire's writings about Paris and those of Yahya Kemal about Istanbul, Hilmi Yavuz, who believes that a city should be experienced on several levels, considers whether traditional cities more than modern ones spark off lyrical imagination.
