At the Ottoman Bank Museum:
Objects and Rituals Prof. Ayşen Savaş will be our first speaker this year at the new lecture series organized by the Museum under the heading "Objects and Rituals". In her presentation titled, "Objects of Desire: Museums Caught Between Objects and Memory", the topic is pleasure, the object of that pleasure, the written word and its location the museum. The lecture is scheduled for Wednesday, January 26, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Recounting a number of anecdotes on seeing, memory and visual information, Prof. Ayşen Savaş will also provide her audience with a unique opportunity to discover the very little known Piero de Medici, and offer a glimpse into his experiences with and his writings on the subject of fleeting pleasures. In her lecture, Savaş will stress how a work of art, even in an age where art had not as yet become institutionalized, can be a means for propelling consciousness.
