The Voyvoda Street Economic History Lectures host Prof. Fuat Keyman with a presentation entitled "Europe's Future and Turkey's EU Membership" on Wednesday, May 31, at 6:30 p.m. The lecture will show that though Turkey's membership negotiations with the EU – which officially began on October 3, 2005 – represent a very positive step forward, they have also launched an accession process of uncertain outcome.
Keyman advances the premise that Turkey's accession to the EU is dependent both on the future political stance of Europe and on Turkey's economic progress and the extent to which it fulfills the obligations of a liberal democracy.
