Probably the greatest writer in the world, William Shakespeare's works have fascinated composers for centuries. In this lecture, Ayşe Sezerman explores the considerable influence Shakespeare had on operatic writing and retraces the numerous operas derived from his plays.
Ayşe Sezerman Soprano
Ayşe Sezerman was born in Celle, France. After completing her middle and high school education at the Üsküdar American College for Girls, she graduated from the Department of Theater and Vocal Arts at the Istanbul University State Conservatory. She then completed, with honors, the master's program in opera and vocal arts at the School of Music in Indiana University. Sezerman has given recitals in Germany, the US, Belgium, the Netherlands and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Highlights from her career include her roles as; Constanze, in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio); Clara, in G. Gershwin's Porgy and Bess; Rosalinde, in J. Strauss' operetta, Die Fledermaus (The Bat); Musetta, in Puccini's La Bohème; and Violetta, in Verdi's La Traviata. In addition to her duties as a faculty member of the State Conservatories at Mimar Sinan University and Istanbul University, Sezerman currently pursues an active career as a soprano soloist with the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet.
